Can we talk for a moment about the rampant alcoholism and drug addiction among artists? Drinking a 6 pack every day is not normal, yet why does the art community normalize it? Smoking weed 5+ times a day, everyday, is not normal. Taking extra shifts at work so that you can spend hundreds of dollars per month on mind altering substances is not normal. Not being able to pursue your career because you waste your money and are constantly fucked up is not normal. Yet, for artists it is far too normal.

While not the focus of my work I find myself exploring these topics with my coaching clients. Usually, the primary pain point I help artists overcome is lack of income. However, that can be overcome relatively quickly — with some clients tripling their income the first month. But most artists fail to even dream about what comes next. How do you fill the void when you constantly aren’t stressed for money and starving (financially, emotionally, spiritually)? Making money isn’t enough. We demand more, and I demand more from my clients. We need the double win; to win at work and at life. This means a radical shift in terms of self care and life fulfillment. Money can’t buy happiness, but most of my coaching starts with money and shifts to happiness.

I am currently driving to go camping for the next 9 days in the mountains and write a book. I am filling my cup so that I can overflow to my students.

Comment below what you are doing to fill the void. And, as a personal favor, talk to someone that is struggling with substance abuse.
